Configuring and Customizing IP

When enabled, ECMP works as follows:
If the current best routes to the destination are better than the new route, the
router discards the new route.
If the new route is better than the current best routes, the router replaces the
current routes with the new one.
If the new route and the current route have the same cost, the router adds the
new route to the routing table (up to the configured maximum). If the routing
table already contains the maximum number of equal-cost routes, IP discards
the new route.
To enable ECMP:
1. Select one of the three methods of distribution for equal-cost routes.
2. Set the maximum number of equal-cost paths that are supported to an
integer from 2 through 12.
When you enable ECMP, you can also configure up to 12 ECMP static routes. If
you then configure two or more static routes to the same destination network, with
the same cost, but with different next hops, these static routes are considered
ECMP static routes and the traffic for this destination is balanced across these next
hops. You disable ECMP static routes by disabling ECMP.
