Conﬁguring an Ethernet Interface for Network Booting

To conﬁgure an Ethernet interface for network booting of a router, use the

following command format:

ifconﬁg [-s

<slot_no.>

] [-d]

[

<IP_address> <subnet_mask>

[

<next_hop_address>

]]

Table 8-3 describes the

ifconﬁg command arguments for conﬁguring the router’s

Ethernet interface.

<subnet_mask>

Speciﬁes the IP subnet mask of the interface you selected

with the

setting. Provide this address in dotted

decimal notation.

<next_hop_address>

Speciﬁes the IP address of the next-hop router. Provide this

address in dotted decimal notation. You only need to specify

this address if there are intermediate routers between the

router and the BOOTP server.

Setting Description

Slot setting:

-s

<slot_no.>

Speciﬁes the slot containing the interface you want to conﬁgure. The slot

corresponds to the ASN slot ID, which can be 1 through 4. If you omit this

argument, ifconﬁg uses the current slot.

Default setting:

-d Resets the router’s IP interface settings to the default values. Resetting an

Ethernet interface makes it inactive in the network booting process. (The output of

the getcfg command shows the default as “None.”)

IP connector setting:

Speciﬁes the type of IP connector you are conﬁguring.

For the AN and ANH, use xcvr1.

For the ASN, use xcvr
